Canon, CO : A Florence man died in a two-vehicle crash on Sunday, 18th March 2018
A Florence man died Sunday in a two-vehicle crash on Colo. 115 near milepost 36 in El Paso County.
The Colorado State Patrol reports a 2010 Toyota Prius was traveling eastbound on Roca Roja Road approaching Colo. 115 as a 2004 Dodge Ram pickup was traveling southbound on Colo. 115. The driver of the Toyota attempted to make a left turn in front of the Dodge when the front of the Dodge collided with the driver's side of the Toyota. Both vehicles remained joined after impact and traveled southeast off the highway as one unit until the Toyota's passenger side struck a guardrail and the vehicles came to rest.
The driver of the Toyota Prius, a 73-year-old male from Florence, was not wearing his seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene. His name is being withheld until next-of-kin have been notified.
The driver of the Dodge, 28-year-old Michael Ore of Canon City, was wearing his seatbelt and was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. Ashley Ore, 27, was seated in the front passenger seat and was wearing her seatbelt. She also was transported with minor injuries. Two minor children were seated in child restraints in the back seat and were uninjured.
At this time, alcohol and/or drug use is not considered to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation. The Colorado State Patrol is asking for any witnesses to the crash to contact Trooper Eric Zachareas at 719-544-2424.
