Tilden,PA : Tilden Township crash kills Hamburg woman on July, Thursday 6th 2017
Tilden Township Police report that Starr Young, 53, of Hamburg, was killed in a three-vehicle crash in Tilden Township that occurred on July 6 at 8:19 a.m. at West State Street and Clayton Avenue.
Young, driving a 2003 Buick Century, was traveling south on Clayton Avenue approaching the intersection of West State Street. A 2003 Ford Truck driven by a 46-year-old woman from Bernville, name withheld by police pending family notification, was traveling west on West State Street approaching the intersection of Clayton Avenue. A 2008 Dodge Truck driven by Ronald Rhodes, 58, Hamburg, was stopped on West State Street facing east preparing to turn left onto Clayton Avenue.
Tilden Township Police report that Young’s Buick Century started to slide on Clayton Avenue and slid into the intersection of West State Street into the path of the Ford Truck causing the front area of truck to strike the driver’s side of the Buick. After the initial impact, the Ford Truck continued west and struck headlong into the front of the Dodge Truck.
Young was transported to Reading Hospital where she later died.
The driver of the Ford Truck was also transported to Reading Hospital and underwent surgery.
Rhodes was released from the scene.
Assisting on scene were the Pennsylvania State Police, Hamburg Police Department, Hamburg EMS, Northern Berks EMS, Hamburg Fire Department, Shoemakersville Fire Department, Hamburg Fire Police, and Shartlesville Fire Police.
Investigation is on-going.
