Bithlo, FL : Moped rider killed in hit-and-run crash on State Road 50 near Bithlo on Tuesday night, April 19, 2016

Troopers are investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash involving a scooter that happened on State Road 50 near Bithlo on Tuesday night.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a vehicle heading east in the right lane on S.R. 50 did not slow as it approached a moped around 8:30 p.m.

Authorities said the SUV rear-ended the moped, causing the rider to be thrown from it.

Witnesses said the driver of the SUV applied the brakes momentarily but then drove away.

The moped rider, identified as Lazaro Adorno-Morales, 20, of Orlando, was killed.

Witnesses described the suspect vehicle as a light-colored SUV with front-end damage. It was last seen headed east on S.R. 50.
