Plainview, NY : 60-year-old woman killed in collision Thursday July 3 2014.
A woman is dead and two were air-lifted to Covenant Children's Hospital Thursday night after a head-on collision at mile marker 56, just north of Plainview.
Debra Borum Monroe, 60, was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:47 p.m. Passengers—an 11-year-old female and a 10-year-old female—were transported to the Lubbock with serious injury.
Monroe was driving a 1999 Jeep Cherokee traveling south on the east service road of I-27.
The second vehicle, a 2010 Toyota Sequoia, was traveling north on the east service road attempting to get onto the interstate at the entrance ramp.
The driver of the Jeep failed to yield right-of-way to the Toyota at yield sign and struck the Toyota head-on.
Driving the Toyota was Morgan Elizabeth Mclain, 25, of Gonzales, Texas.
Mclain was transported to Covenant Hospital Plainview and is in stable condition. Mclain had six passengers ranging from ages of 16-months to 44-years-old.
Four passengers were transported to Covenant Hospital Plainview with non-life threatening injuries and one with serious injuries, who was taken to UMC in Lubbock. All occupants were wearing seatbelts and in child safety restraint systems.
