Circleville, OH : A pedestrian died Thursday after he was struck by a car while crossing U.S. 23 just north of Sperry Drive in Circleville on May 15, 2014
The northbound lanes of U.S. 23 reopened just south of Circleville following a crash involving a pedestrian early Thursday morning.
According to the Pickaway County Sheriff's Office, a person was struck by a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt in the northbound lanes of U.S. 23 at about 4:47 a.m.
Deputies say the driver of the Chevy, Tonya A. Hill, of Jackson, called the sheriff’s office to report that she had hit something on the roadway while she was driving northbound on U.S. 23, just north of Sperry Drive.
Arriving deputies found the pedestrian, identified as Larry E. Shoemo, of Circleville, in the roadway.
Deputies say Shoemo was crossing U.S. 23 from east to west when he was struck and killed. Shoemo was on his way to work.
The Ohio Department of Transportation responded to close the road during the investigation. The roadway was closed between Sperry Drive and U.S. 22. It reopened before 10 a.m., according to deputies.
The Pickaway County Coroner ordered an autopsy be performed.
