Elk Township, N.J : Female passenger dead and woman injured after a crash on Route 55 in Gloucester County on Wednesday, January 20, 2016

Authorities tell Action News a woman is dead and another hospitalized after a single-vehicle crash on Route 55 in Gloucester County.

It happened before 7:30 a.m. Wednesday in the northbound lanes in Elk Township, New Jersey.

Images from Chopper 6 HD showed a light-colored sedan which had crashed in the woods dividing the north- and southbound sides of the highway.

A large tree was seen lying across the front half of the car.

Eighteen-year-old passenger, Shakira Deleon of Lindenwold, New Jersey, was killed in the crash.

The driver, 19-year-old Danail Garcia of Vineland, New Jersey, is in stable condition at Cooper University Hospital.

New Jersey State Police continue to investigate.
