HESPERIA, CA : Man killed in head-on crash on Hesperia Road, two women airlifted to trauma center on Thursday, 27th October 2016
Authorities were investigating a fatal head-on collision that shut down a portion of Hesperia Road for roughly five hours on Thursday morning.
Hesperia Road was closed in both directions between Eucalyptus and Mesa streets after San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to the crash at approximately 5:10 a.m.
Deputies arrived and found a Chevrolet sedan on fire with the driver and passenger trapped inside.
“Another motorist assisted the first deputy on scene to free the female passenger, who sustained moderate to major injuries,” sheriff’s officials said in a statement. “As additional deputies arrived on scene, a fire extinguisher was used to keep the flames down as they rescued the male driver from the burning vehicle.”
Deputies rendered CPR to the driver of the Chevrolet, a 44-year-old man, at the scene and “all the way to a local hospital,” where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.
The victim’s name is withheld pending notification of next of kin, authorities said.
A woman driving in a Ford SUV, believed to have been traveling northbound on Hesperia Road, suffered moderate injuries.
Both women were airlifted to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, according to authorities.
The cause of crash was under investigation by the Hesperia Sheriff’s Station’s Major Accident Investigation Team.
