Ventura man killed in Oxnard single-car crash

Oxnard police responded to a single-car crash that killed a man Saturday evening, officials said.

David Jonathan Faalevao died after his car hit a tree and flipped onto its right side, officials said.

Witnesses said the 38-year-old Ventura resident was traveling south on Ventura Road when his sport utility vehicle drove into the left turn pocket at Ivywood Drive and stopped at the red light. The SUV slowly started to drift into the intersection and veer to the left, then suddenly accelerated south in northbound lanes, officials said.

After traveling a few hundred feet, the car crashed into a large tree and hedges before flipping onto its right side, officials said.

Faalevao was extricated from the car but died at the scene. He was the only person in the SUV and no other vehicles were involved, officials said.
