Jacksonville, FL : 21-year-old woman killed in crash on I-295 NB at Alta Drive on Sunday night, December 27, 2015

A 21-year-old woman was killed in a fatal crash on Interstate 295 northbound near Alta Drive on Sunday night.

Madisson Russell of Jacksonville was driving a 2004 Mazda 6 in the left lane when "for unknown reasons it traveled off the roadway to the left," according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

Russell's vehicle appeared to have overcorrected, went off the right side of the road and crashed into a tree in the woods, the report detailed.

Debris from Russell's vehicle hit a 2012 Mazda CX-7 traveling northbound on I-295 in the right lane.

Russell was pronounced dead at the scene by the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department, the FHP report said.
