Indianapolis, IN : Woman injured in crash after leaving roadway on I-74 Thursday night, January 7, 2016

A woman was injured after her SUV left the road on I-74 on the west side and crashed down an embankment into a wooded area.

The crashed happened Thursday night just before midnight on westbound I-74 about a mile west of I-465.

The woman became trapped in her car following the crash. Wayne Township crews needed over an hour to remove her.

Indiana State Police say that a passerby saw the woman's headlights through the woods and stopped to help. They say that had the passerby not seen the headlights, it's likely the woman would not have been found.

She was taken to Methodist Hospital with injuries to her lower body.
