Cass County, TX : Atlanta woman killed in accident on Texas Highway 77 in Cass County on Wednesday, 17th July 2019

An Atlanta, Texas, woman was killed early Wednesday in a two-vehicle accident on Texas Highway 77 in Cass County.

Monica Velazquez, 30, of Atlanta died at the scene, according to a preliminary fatality report from the Texas Department of Public Safety.The accident happened at 8 a.m. about two miles west of Atlanta in Cass County, according to the report.The preliminary investigation indicates a GMC truck driven by Velazquez was traveling east on Highway 77 in a curve.

The driver attempted to pass another vehicle in a no passing zone and lost control, according to the report.

The GMC pickup crossed into the westbound lane and was struck by a truck-tractor semi trailer, driven by Debra Jones, 60, of Linden, Texas.

Jones was not seriously injured. The investigation is ongoing and no additional information was available late Wednesday.
