Sebring, FL : Two drivers were injured in an accident at Holmes Avenue on Friday, 7th October, 2016
Two drivers were injured, one critically, in a Friday night accident.
At 9:18 p.m., a 2005 Nissan Altima and a 2017 Ford Escape were northbound on Holmes Avenue, just north of Turtle Road. When the Altima passed the Escape, Airela Yvonne Vega, 17, of Lake Placid, drove onto the
southbound lane, authorities said.
The Escape, driven by Hailey Ashton West, 18, drove off the roadway onto the western grassy shoulder of Holmes. As the Altima merged back onto the southbound lane of Holmes, it rotated clockwise, then back onto the
northbound lane, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
The Altima’s front left bumper collided with the Escape’s front left. After impact, the Altima continued northerly off the roadway onto the eastern grassy shoulder, where the driver’s side collided with a utility pole, FHP added.
After impact, the Escape continued northerly off the roadway onto the eastern grassy shoulder, and also collided with a utility pole support. It overturned on the eastern shoulder of Holmes Avenue.
Vega was critically injured from the crash and was transported to Florida Hospital Lake Placid. On Saturday morning, charges were pending the outcome of the investigation, FHP said.
West received minor injuries. Trooper Ruben Guiterrez’s report did not state whether she sought immedate medical treatment.
