New haven , CT : 88-year-old woman killed in single-car crash after car struck a utility pole on Sunday morning ,January 18th 2015

Icy and wet road conditions are suspected in the death of an 88-year-old woman whose car struck a utility pole in New Haven.

Police spokesman David Hartman said Elizabeth Mohr of Woodbridge lost control of her car as she drove on North Frontage Road at about 8 a.m. Sunday.

Hartman said a group of nurses from Yale-New Haven Hospital were nearby and tried to help her but weren't able to save her life.

Hartman said the cause of the accident hasn't been officially determined but police believe the car was going too fast for the weather conditions.

Much of Connecticut was under a freezing rain advisory Sunday morning, and numerous crashes have been reported.
