Stockton, CA : 1 dead, 5 injured in multi-vehicle crash on Hwy. 4 near Filbert Street on Monday afternoon, August 22, 2016
One man was killed and five others were injured Monday afternoon in a crash that involved two big rigs on Highway 4 in Stockton, officials said.
The man was ejected from a vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene, said Jeff Whitlock of the Stockton Fire Department. Two people were listed in critical condition.
The victim was an 83-year-old man from Escalon who was in a Ford F-150 at the time of the crash, California Highway Patrol Officer Daniel Sepulveda said.
The crash was reported just before 3 p.m. on eastbound Hwy. 4 near Filbert Street, Caltrans said. Two big rigs, the pickup truck and another vehicle were involved in the crash, Whitlock said.
One of the big rigs was transporting grain when the truck rolled over and spilled grain on the highway, Sepulveda said. Diesel fuel also spilled on the road. The rollover led to the three other vehicles crashing.
The road was closed to traffic for more than three hours. All lanes reopened before 6:40 p.m.
No other details were released.
