Terrebonne Parish ,LA : 57 -Years old Carolyn Pellegrin killed and two ohers injured in Head - on Crash on Tuesday afternoon ,April 21 2015

Impairment is suspected to be a factor in a head-on crash that killed a 57-year-old Chauvin woman this afternoon, State Police said.

Police identified the victim as Carolyn Pellegrin.

Shortly after 2:30 p.m., police said, a 2012 Dodge Challenger driven by Jason Dehart, 28, of Bourg, failed to negotiate a curve on La. 56 just south of the Duplantis Bridge and crossed the centerline, hitting Pellegrin's 2009 Mercury Grand Marquis head-on.

The impact sent Pellegrin's vehicle off the road where it struck a utility pole, police said.

Dehart, who was not wearing a seat belt, received minor injuries, and a 4-year-old female passenger inside his car, who was not properly restrained, received moderate injuries, police said. Both were transported to Terrebonne General Medical Center.

Pellegrin, who was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead on the scene by the Terrebonne Parish Coroner's Office, police said.

Police said blood was taken from Dehart and the test results will be pending at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab.

Dehart was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide, first-degree vehicular negligent injuring, driving left of center, no driver's license, no seat belt and no child restraint.

Impairment is not suspected for Pellegrin, but routine toxicology tests are pending, police said. The crash remains under investigation
