Birmingham, AL : Fatal crash Wednesday on I-59 began as single vehicle accident on May 28th 2014

One person was killed in an interstate crash in the Woodlawn and East Lake area of Birmingham Wednesday morning.

Birmingham police say it happened about 4 a.m. on the southbound side of I-59 about a quarter of a mile past the 4th Avenue exit.

Several vehicles were involved, and at one point, all southbound lanes were closed. Traffic was diverted from Roebuck through East Lake.

The victim has not been identified.

The crash is under investigation.
