Oberlin, OH : Matthew Hatfield 35 was killed in a early-morning motorcycle crash at Lorain County’s Carlisle Township On Wednesday, July 13th, 2016

The Elyria post of the state Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal accident that happened at 12:24 a.m. Wednesday in Lorain County’s Carlisle Township.

A 2014 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, driven by Matthew Hatfield, 35, of Avon Lake, was southbound on Oberlin-Elyria Road, north of Hall Road, when it went off the right side of the road, struck a curb, went out of control and

crashed, troopers said. The motorcycle continued across the intersection of Hall Road, and struck a second curb, a utility pole guy wire and a large side.

Hatfield was ejected off the motorcycle and ended up in a parking lot on the west side of the road.

He sustained serious injuries and was transported by a Life Care ambulance to Elyria University medical center, where he was pronounced dead, troopers said.

Unsafe speed and alcohol both appear to be factors in the crash, which remains under investigation, troopers said.
