PIQUA, OH : 71-year-old Piqua man struck by neighbor’s car on May, Monday 8th 2017
A Piqua man had died following an accident in his neighborhood on Monday CareFlight was first called to transport a man who was reportedly struck by a vehicle while mowing his lawn, however the man died before he could be put aboard the medical helicopter.
According to Deputy Piqua Police Chief Marty Grove, James Robert McClannan, 71, was mowing his lawn, using a push-type mower, in the 800 block of Sunset Drive around 2:30 p.m. when a neighbor began backing out of his driveway, striking the man. It appears that McClannan may have been attempting to make a turn, stepping into the driveway, and into the path of the backing vehicle as he did so.
Piqua Fire Department medics were dispatched to the scene and summoned CareFlight to meet them at the American Legion landing zone next to the Piqua Fire Department, but McClannan passed away before CareFlight could transport him.
McClannan’s body was transported to the Montgomery County Crime Lab for an autopsy.
Piqua police are continuing to investigate the incident.
