Jefferson County, AL : Two dead after wreck on Alabama 269 in Jefferson County on Wednesday evening, November 19, 2014
Authorities today identified two men who were killed Wednesday evening in a fiery head-on collision in Jefferson County.
The Jefferson County Coroner's Office identified the victims at Tate Eugene Shaneyfelt, 39, and Clarence Joies Johnsey Jr., 46.
The wreck happened about 5:20 p.m. on Alabama Highway 269 before Flat Top Road, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office. Authorities said Shaneyfelt was driving a 2013 Nissan Frontier southbound on Birmingport Road; Johnsey was driving a Dodge Dakota pickup truck northbound.
One of the vehicles crossed the center line and they hit. Shaneyfelt, of Sylvan Springs, was found inside his truck. He was pronounced dead on the scene at 5:30 p.m.
Johnsey's truck caught on fire, and bystanders pulled him out. He died on the scene while paramedics were getting him ready for transport to the hospital.
Johnsey, of Vance, was pronounced dead at 5:40 p.m. The crash remains under investigation by the sheriff's office.
