Rossville, IN : Three people injured in head-on crash on Ind. 26 in Clinton County on Wednesday, April 27, 2016

Purdue senior Shelby Larson might miss finals. She was one of three people injured in a head-on crash on Indiana 26 about 5:15 p.m. Wednesday just west of Rossville, Clinton County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Joe Mink said.

"A white Ford pickup appears to have crossed the center and hit a green Dodge vehicle head on," Mink said of the preliminary investigation at the scene a short time after the crash.

"Two occupants of the truck were injured. They had to be extricated by Rossville fire(fighters)," Mink said. "The individual that was in the car also had to be extricated."

Larson, 21, of Sharpsville, was driving the green car and was returning to Purdue from her rural Tipton County home, Mink said.

The driver of the truck was Christine Abbott, 41, of Frankfort, Mink said later in the night. Her passenger was Kenneth Denman, 58, of Frankfort, who was seriously injured in the crash. Medical teams at a Lafayette hospital managed to stabilize both Abbott and Denman, Mink said.

"The damages are very severe," Mink said, noting that the speed limit is 40 miles per hour, but it is near the 55 mile per hour zone, so drivers might be traveling faster than the posted speed limit.

All three remained hospitalized Wednesday night, MInk said.

Traffic on Indiana 26 west of Rossville was stopped in both directions as deputies investigated the crash, Mink said. The road re-opened at 7:55 p.m., according to an alert from the Clinton County Sheriff's Office.

When the investigation is complete, it will be presented to the Clinton County prosecutor for review, Mink said.
