A 9-year-old boy who was hit by an East Cleveland service truck has died.

Devion Lesure passed away at Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital Tuesday afternoon, according to a hospital spokesman.

The incident happened about 5:30 p.m. Friday on Hayden Avenue. The boy ran into the street because other children were throwing pieces of asphalt at him and his sister, said East Cleveland Det. Sgt. Scott Gardner.

The boy suffered severe brain damage after the collision, Gardner said.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating. It's unclear whether the driver has been charged.

East Cleveland police are also investigating.
