Uxbridge, MA : Uxbridge cop hurt in cruiser crash on Rte. 146 on Saturday, December 31, 2016
An Uxbridge Police officer suffered minor injuries after a car crashed into his cruiser on Rte. 146 on Saturday.
The officer, along with the driver of the car that struck his cruiser, were both taken to the Milford Hospital as a precaution and were treated and released, police said in a release.
The officer had pulled his cruiser over in the breakdown lane on Rte. 146 near Exit 2 to assist a Massachusetts State Police trooper who had pulled over a car.
"Both cruisers had their lights illuminated at the time," police wrote in the release.
The car struck the rear of the Uxbridge cruiser. The cruiser sustained heavy rear-end damage, while the car that struck it had significant front-end damage. Police said no other vehicles were involved in the crash.
Police did not identify the officer or the person driving the car that struck the cruiser.
Police said drivers need to remember to switch lanes, when possible, when coming upon a traffic stop.
"Please remember to adhere to the 'Move Over' law when operating a motor vehicle for your safety and the safety of all public safety personnel," police wrote.
No one has been cited and the Massachusetts State Police are investigating the crash.
