Melville, NY : Driver crashes into 7-Eleven in Selden on February, Thursday 1st 2018
A young driver crashed his new car into a 7-Eleven store in Selden on Thursday night, smashing through the glass facade and into a beer display, a fire chief said.
“He thought he hit the brakes, but he managed to hit the gas,” said Third Assistant Chief Keith Kostrna of the Selden Fire department.
Kostrna, the first responder on the scene, said no one was seriously injured in the crash that occurred shortly after 10 p.m. at the Middle Country Road convenience store.
Police did not immediately release details of the crash.
Kostrna said the driver, 19, told him he recently got his Toyota Corolla, and had left it running to go into the store.
When he got into the car, his miscalculation sent the Toyota jumping over the sidewalk and into the store, the assistant chief said. The crash attracted a number of onlookers and even the driver was taking photos of the car, Kostrna said.
“He traveled a pretty decent distance because the whole front of the car was in the store,” Kostrna said. “Luckily, nobody happened to be standing there.”
