The Spencer Fire Department said the six-car collision occurred on Route 49 near Podunk Road.
Two medical helicopters were requested, but the decision was made to take the victims to the hospital via ambulances.
The Sturbridge Fire Department said seven people needed medical attention and were taken to the hospital to be treated for their injuries.
Officials said ambulances from several towns were requested to be sent to the scene.
There is no word on the condition of the victims.
Sturbridge Police said Route 49 was temporarily closed. State police is investigating the cause of the crash.
