Crystal River, FL : Separate wrecks end in death, injuries on Sunday, February 19th 2017
A Dunnellon man was killed and three others were injured in separate traffic crashes along U.S. 19 on Sunday.
The first incident happened at about 6:45 p.m. on U.S. 19 just north of the intersection with U.S. 98, where a motorcyclist was ejected after striking a curb.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) crash report, 41-year-old Danny Ullery, of Brooksville, was riding a Harley-Davidson south on the inside lane of U.S. 19.
For unknown reasons, Ullery rode into the center of the roadway, struck a raised curb and then a traffic sign, causing the motorcycle to overturn and eject Ullery.
Ullery, who was not wearing a helmet, was transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center in serious condition. Alcohol was not considered a factor, according to FHP.
One man was killed and two others were seriously injured later in the evening in a multi-vehicle crash on U.S. 19, south of West Arber Court near Homosassa, according to the FHP.
Matthew Canning, 29, and his 28-year-old passenger Cameo Wiggins, both of Inverness, were traveling in a Jeep Cherokee northbound in the inside lane.
Albert Funari Jr., 45, of Dunnellon, was driving a Nissan Xterra next to Canning’s vehicle in the outside lane.
Canning attempted to merge into the outside lane, striking Funari’s vehicle, which rotated across the northbound lanes and into the path of southbound traffic.
Driving south in a Nissan Altima, 56-year-old Pamela Wikberg and her 62-year-old passenger Tony Wikberg, both of Gulfport, collided with the passenger side of Funari’s vehicle.
Funari’s Xterra overturned and Funari, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected, according to FHP. Funari died at the scene.
The Wikbergs were transported to Bayonet Point Regional Medical Center in critical condition. Canning and Wiggins were not injured.
Alcohol was not considered a factor in the crash, but charges are pending, according to the FHP.
