The Tractor-trailer crash on Interstate 89

State police say Interstate 89 in Waterbury is back open again after it was shut down for hours overnight due to an accident.

State police say a car was going south in the northbound lane just before 3:30a.m. Saturday when it hit a tractor-trailer head-on. The tractor-trailer crossed the median and landed in the southbound lanes.

The driver of the car was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The tractor-trailer driver was not seriously hurt but was taken to the hospital.

Police say at one point, both southbound lanes and one northbound lane were closed, snarling traffic.

The cause of that crash is under investigation.
