Two people died early Wednesday morning following a head-on car crash near the top of Nolanville Hill on Interstate 14.

Law enforcement officials said a 2015 blue Chevy Cruze traveling the wrong direction on westbound I-14 struck a 2008 white Nissan Altima about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday. One person died at the scene and another person died after they were taken to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center-Temple.

The collision happened near where I-14 and Simmons Road exit meet, Bell County Justice of the Peace David Barfield said.

Barfield pronounced a 30-year-old man who drove the Cruze dead at the scene at 3:34 a.m. and ordered an autopsy at Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences.

A passenger in the Altima was taken to the hospital and was in stable condition, according to Barfield.

City of Belton spokesman Paul Romer confirmed the passenger was treated for multiple injuries and then released.
