Wilmington ,NC : 23-year-old woman killed afteraccident near Monkey Junctionon Wednesday , May 27th 2015

Highway Patrol Troopers are investigating an accident that killed a 23-year-old woman on Antoinette Drive near Monkey Junction.

Trooper Neil Troutman says the accident happened around 6 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Antoinette Drive and U.S. 421/Carolina Beach Rd.

The woman was traveling west on Antoinette Drive when she went off the road and into a ditch. Trooper Troutman says she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time and was ejected from the vehicle and killed instantly.

A witness told troopers she saw the car drive into a curve moments before and nearly hit a car head-on. It's believed the woman swerved to avoid that car, went off the road, then lost control when she overcorrected and got back onto the roadway.

The car ended up in a ditch in front of a cemetery on Antoinette Drive.
