Bay St. Louis, MS : Three people are dead and two others injured in a two 18-wheelers crash at I-10 On Monday, May 3rd, 2016

Three people are dead and two others are fighting for their lives after a pileup involving two 18-wheelers on Intestate 10 Monday night. Authorities report the four

vehicle accident in the westbound lanes happened just before the Pearl River bridge near the Mississippi-Louisiana state line.

The jaws of life was used to get two of the victims out of the mangled mess. Three other passengers were thrown from the vehicle, one of whom died at a hospital.

"We had an 18-wheeler slowing down due to road work causing the traffic behind it to slow as well. A second 18-wheeler rear ended a passenger car," said Mississippi

Highway Patrol Public Information Officer Chase Elkins.

Westbound traffic was stopped in place for several hours. Drivers voiced their concerns about the construction work underway.

"I'm thinking it means we should all take a closer look at what we are doing out here on the roads in constructions zones," said Fred Smith. "It really taking a toll

on us right now. It's been over 4 hours in the same spot so it's really taking a toll."

The accident scene was cleared around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Two of the accident victims were taken to an area hospital with critical injuries and a third with minor injuries.
