One person was killed and three people were injured early Sunday morning when a truck crashed while driving in the wrong direction on Interstate 94 in Kenosha County, police said.
The truck was headed south on Interstate 94 north near Highway 142 at 12:50 a.m. when the driver crashed head-on into another truck, police said.
A state trooper had stopped the wrong-way driver before the crash, but the truck fled and continued in the wrong direction near Kenosha, police said.
One person in the truck headed in the right direction died. A passenger in that truck suffered serious injuries.
The driver of the wrong-way truck suffered life-threatening injuries and a passenger had non-life-threatening injuries.
Greg Garcia said he and a bandmate were driving on I-94 in Kenosha County when the crash occurred.
“It was a half-a-second,” he said. “It was an instant that it avoided hitting me head-on. Head-on, straight at me.”
Garcia said he could feel the car go past him.
“It was like, ‘vroom.’ No sooner, it was like ‘vroom’ and he hit,” Garcia said. “It was so fast.”
Garcia said he wants to help the victims’ families.
“I know that sometimes they set up accounts for the victims’ families, and I plan on donating as soon as I find out who it is,” Garcia said.
