A 24-year-old Lincoln man suffered life-threatening head and chest injuries Monday afternoon when the four-wheeler he was driving collided with an SUV east of Lincoln.
The ATV was heading south on 190th Street and apparently was turning left onto Old Cheney Road when it hit the passenger side of the SUV, which was westbound on Old Cheney, said Lancaster County Sheriff’s Sgt. Scott Gaston.Drivers and those living in the area stopped to help and called 911 at 5:31 p.m. Among those who came to the man's aid was Guy Pinkman, who lives nearby and is a captain with Lincoln Fire and Rescue. Pinkman tried to open the man’s airway to help him breathe until on-duty firefighters and rescue workers arrived.
The man was taken to Bryan West Campus hospital by medical helicopter, Gaston said. Officials aren't certain he was wearing a helmet, but they found one at the scene.
The woman driving the SUV was not injured.
Gaston said they weren't releasing names until relatives of the man are notified.
