ALLEGHANY COUNTY, VA : Ashland man killed in motorcycle crash on Thursday, 1st August 2024

Virginia State Police have released the name of a man killed in a motorcycle crash Thursday.

Police say James Douglas Pittman, 55 of Ashland, died at the scene of the crash early the morning of August 1 on Interstate 64, one and a quarter mile west of Route 696 in Alleghany County.

Police say Pittman was driving a Harley Davidson at a high rate of speed on Interstate 64 at mile marker 20.4. He passed a vehicle, then ran off the right side of the road, hitting the guardrail. He and a passenger were thrown from the motorcycle.

The passenger was flown to a hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.
