Lafayette, IN:One hurt in U.S. 231 crash on Thursday, July 16th 2015

The driver of a sport utility vehicle was critically injured Thursday morning when his SUV and a semi-trailer collided on U.S. 231 South at Veterans Memorial Parkway.Collin Volpi, 18, of Lafayette, was flown by medical helicopter to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, Tippecanoe County sheriff's deputy Jodi Rohler said.
Vopli is listed in critical condition, according to a hospital spokeswoman.The semi driven by Brandon Bahnerth, 31, of Wheatfield, Indiana, was headed north on U.S. 231 when Volpi attempted to turn east from the southbound lane onto Veterans Memorial Parkway, she said.The sheriff's crash reconstruction team determined that Volpi failed to yield the right of way, Rohler said.The semi driver did not seek medical treatment at the scene.
