Indianpolis, IN : 81-year-old Rodney Thompson dies in single-vehicle wreck on the east side of Indianapolis Wednesday afternoon, April 22, 2015

An elderly man was killed in a crash on the city’s east side Wednesday afternoon.

The incident was reported on South Emerson and English avenues just before 3:45 p.m., officials with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said.

Police said the victim's car crashed into the base of a bridge, but it was not yet clear how he lost control of the vehicle.

The victim was later identified as 81-year-old Rodney Thompson. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

At least three other people have died in crashes at the same site over the past few years.
