Sacramento, CA : Man, 73, on mobility scooter dies after he's hit by car while crossing H.B. street on Monday, November 21st, 2016
A 73-year-old man died after a car struck him as he was crossing a major thoroughfare on his mobility scooter in Huntington Beach on Saturday evening, authorities said.
Huntington Beach police responded at 7:21 p.m. to the intersection of Beach Boulevard and Taylor Drive after receiving reports of a collision involving a silver Mazda Protégé and a man on a motorized mobility scooter.
Officers found Richard Jeans Jr. of Huntington Beach lying in the road next to his Golden Companion mobility scooter. He was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he later died of his injuries.
Police think Jeans was riding west on Taylor Drive across Beach Boulevard in an unmarked crosswalk when the Mazda, traveling north, struck him, according to a news release.
Alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in the crash. The Mazda driver remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities, police said. No arrests have been made.
Anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact Huntington Beach police accident investigator Robert Barr at (714) 536-5666 or accident investigator Josh Page at (714) 536-5670. During non-business hours or on weekends, individuals should call (714) 960-8825.
