Baltimore, MD : Several people injured when a bus carrying senior citizens involved in a crash in Pikesville on Monday morning, February 16, 2015

Seventeen people were injured when a private bus carrying senior citizens collided with an SUV in Pikesville on Monday morning, Baltimore County authorities said.

A transport vehicle owned by Select Care overturned when it struck a white SUV in the 3500 block of Woodvalley Drive near Stevenson Road shortly after 9 a.m., police said.

The bus landed on its left side, partly on the lawn of a home. Emergency workers had to pull passengers out through the back door and tended to some of them on a driveway.

Fourteen passengers and the driver of the transport vehicle were taken to area hospitals for injuries that were not deemed life-threatening; one passenger was in serious condition. Two people inside the SUV also suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to the hospital.

"We are aware of an incident involving a company-owned vehicle," Thomas R. Brennan, director of human resources for Pennsylvania-based Senior Care Centers of America Inc., said in a statement. "The incident is under investigation, and we do not have any additional information at this time. Our thoughts and well wishes go out to all of those who have been involved in this incident."

Brennan declined to answer questions about the crash, including the route of the bus.

All patients, including some who had been in wheelchairs, were extricated within 10 minutes.

The county's crash team continues to investigate the cause of the crash.
