CARTHAGE, NC : A Whispering Pines man was killed in Carthage on Monday, November, 6th 2017

A Whispering Pines man was killed Monday when his car struck a tree in Carthage.

According to reports by the N.C. Highway Patrol, Ray Aaron Hampton Jr., 52, of 642 Michael Road, Whispering Pines, was traveling north on Joel Road near Star Ridge Road in a 2002 Mercury at approximately 2:23 p.m. Monday when the car ran off the road and struck a tree.

Hampton was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials believe Hampton may have suffered medical issues prior to the crash.
