Anchorage, AK : Alakanuk woman dies in ATV crash on Tuesday evening, Aug 11, 2015
An woman died in the village of Alakanuk Tuesday evening after she was thrown from an all-terrain vehicle in a crash, according to Alaska State Troopers.
A Wednesday AST dispatch said Emmonak troopers were informed by Alakanuk police at about 9:25 p.m. of the crash which killed 21-year-old resident Cecila Chikigak. She was the only rider on the ATV when it crashed near the city office in Alakanuk, a community of about 730 people roughly 160 miles northwest of Bethel.
“Investigation revealed that Chikigak was driving on the roadway at a high rate of speed and left the roadway and struck a metal shipping container,” troopers wrote. “Chikigak was thrown from the ATV (and) died on impact.”
AST officials weren't initially available Wednesday afternoon to answer questions about the crash.
Chikigak’s body was sent to the state medical examiner’s office in Anchorage for an autopsy.
