BROOKSVILLE, FL : An 87-year-old woman died following a car crash on Wednesday, July 26, 2017
An 87-year-old woman died following a Wednesday morning car crash, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Phyllis Burns Elliot of Brooksville was driving a 2004 Saturn L300 sedan south on Fort Dade Avenue approaching State Road 50 at about 11:30 a.m., troopers said. She tried to cross S.R. 50, also known as Cortez Boulevard, but pulled out into the path of a 2016 Toyota Camry driven by Jeannine Kelli Donigan, 43, of Spring Hill.
It was unclear if Elliot ran the stop sign or stopped before entering the intersection. Donigan had the right of way as she did not face a stop sign or traffic light.
After the two vehicles collided, Elliot was taken to Bayfront Health Brooksville where she later died. Donigan suffered minor injuries and was transported to Oak Hill Hospital, troopers said.
Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, the FHP said, and charges will not be filed.
