Murrieta, CA : California mayor arrested on DUI charge after crash on Thursday, October 16, 2014
The mayor of Murrieta has apologized to four cheerleaders who were injured in a crash that resulted in his arrest on suspicion of drunk driving.
The Los Angeles Times on Saturday reports that Mayor Alan Long's attorney Virginia Blumenthal says her client's blood-alcohol level was within the legal limit.
Blumenthal says Long, who is also a battalion chief with the Anaheim Fire Department, provided medical aid to the teens.
Murrieta police say Long plowed into the back of the car carrying the cheerleaders from a pep rally as it was stopped at a light.
Long failed a field sobriety test Thursday, but he passed a Breathalyzer test.
Police are awaiting blood-test results.
Long was released Friday on $50,000 bail.
