Sweden, NY : Man killed by hit-and-run driver in Monroe County on Wednesday night, December 31, 2014

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office says a 53-year-old Orleans County man who had been plowing driveways has died after being struck by a hit-and-run driver.

The incident happened around 11:30 Wednesday night in Sweden, 17 miles west of Rochester. The sheriff’s office tells media outlets that Thomas Taylor of Holley had parked his plow truck in a driveway and was walking along the shoulder of the road looking for a customer’s address when he was struck down.

A woman passenger in Taylor’s truck found him lying in a ditch. He was later pronounced dead at Strong Memorial Hospital.

The incident remains under investigation.
