Aiea, HI : 78-year-old woman severely injured after car crashes into her Kahapili St. house in Aiea on Thursday, August 28, 2014

A 78-year-old woman who was hospitalized in extremely critical condition Thursday after she was hit by a car in Aiea has died. The crash occurred at around 12:15 p.m. in the driveway of a home on Kahapili Street. Neighbors say the woman was getting dropped off when it happened. According to the Honolulu Police Department’s traffic division, the driver, a woman in her 70s, thought she was in reverse when she hit the gas and accelerated into the woman. The driver swerved in an attempt to avoid hitting the woman, which caused the car to hit the home, police said. The car came to a stop with part of its bumper in the front bedroom. The 78-year-old woman was taken to Queens Medical Center in critical condition where she later died. The driver and her passenger were not injured.
