Port Charlotte, FL : Bicyclist died when struck by a car on S.R. 776, east of Toledo Blade Boulevard early Sunday morning, May 1, 2016
A Port Charlotte man riding his bicycle without lights or reflective clothing was killed shortly after midnight on Sunday when he was struck by a motorist on State Road 776 east of Toledo Blade Boulevard.
A report by the FHP said the 52-year-old bicyclist was traveling in the eastbound right hand portion of the right lane of 776 and the 19-year-old driver of a 1998 Toyota Tacoma pickup was traveling in the eastbound right lane approaching the bicycle from the rear.
The Florida Highway Patrol said the area where the crash occurred does not have street lighting.
The FHP said that the bicycle did not have any lights visible and the driver was not wearing reflective clothing.
The driver of the Tacoma failed to see the bicycle in the roadway and the truck's front right struck the rear of the bike.
The driver of the bike landed on the front right hood and windshield of the truck. The Tacoma driver stopped his vehicle in the eastbound right lane of 776 and the bicyclist rolled off of the truck and onto the eastbound bike lane.
No charges have been filed.
