Bainbridge Island, Washington
A 59-year-old Bainbridge Island woman was taken to Harrison Hospital for treatment of possible neck and back injuries after she was hurt in a dramatic two-car accident in the heart of downtown Winslow late last week.
According to Bainbridge police, the accident occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 21 when a 24-year-old Seattle man in a 2007 Toyota Scion was heading west on Winslow Way just past Ericksen Avenue.
The Bainbridge woman, who was also headed west on Winslow Way, was in front of the Seattle man in a 2013 Subaru Outback.
Just as the two vehicles began to pass the Town & Country Market, the Seattle driver smacked into the rear of the Subaru, which sent the vehicle crashing into a crosswalk pole and metal railing on the opposite side of the street from the grocery store.
Witnesses said the Seattle man appeared to be speeding at the time of the collision; the man told police he saw the other vehicle but could not stop in time.
Emergency responders descended on the scene and traffic downtown
