A 14-year-old boy is in serious condition after he was hit by a car while riding his bike in Perry Township Sunday afternoon.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash happened at 1:25 p.m. on State Route 172.
Police say the 14-year-old Massillon boy was trying to cross the road on his BMX-style bike when he was hit by a 2007 Audi A4 car driven by 42-year-old Michael Gibson.
The boy was thrown from the bike on impact. He was transported to Aultman Hospital by EMS and then flown to Akron Children's Hospital by medical helicopter, where he is listed in serious condition.
Officials say he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
According to authorities, Gibson and his passenger were not injured. His driver's license was suspended at the time of the crash, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The crash is under investigation.
