Marion, NC : One dead in motorcycle crash in Marion on Wednesday, 6th June 2018
A motorcyclist was pronounced dead after his bike went off an embankment and plunged into a creek in Marion, according to reports.
At approximately 11:59 a.m., emergency units and law enforcement responded to the intersection of Goose Creek Road and Sugar Hill Road in Marion after receiving reports of a motorcycle crash.
According to Trooper James Deaton of the N.C. Highway Patrol, the cyclist – 43-year-old Simon Elliott of Hankins Road in Marion – was traveling on Goose Creek Road towards Sugar Hill Road when his bike veered left of center, overcorrected, drove off an embankment and ejected him towards the creek.
According to emergency radio at the time of the incident, Elliott, having suffered head trauma and other bodily injuries, entered cardiac arrest after being removed from the creek and was administered CPR by paramedics.
MAMA helicopter was notified and stationed nearby for airlift transportation before the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Glenwood Fire Department, McDowell EMS, McDowell Rescue Squad and the N.C. Highway Patrol responded to the call.
