Garrett, PA : Two killed, three injured in a head-on crash in Brothersvalley Township on Friday, December 30, 2016
Two people were killed and three others injured in a head-on crash late Friday on the Garrett Shortcut Road in Brothersvalley Township, according to Pennsylvania State Police at Somerset.
Police said a 39-year-old male who was operating one of the vehicles and a 43-year-old female who was a passenger in the vehicle were fatally injured in the 8:59 p.m., crash that occurred in the 900 block of the Garrett Shortcut Road near Loop Road.
Police said a 22-year-old male was operating the second vehicle and was accompanied by two males, ages 20 and 21. Two of those persons were taken by ambulance to the Conemaugh Memorial Hospital in Johnstown for treatment of unknown injuries, according to the Somerset County Control emergency center.
The identities of all of the victims were withheld, pending further investigation and notification of next of kin.
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Zachary Bell indicated both vehicle were traveling on the Garrett Shortcut Road when one vehicle crossed into the opposite lane, resulting in a head-on collision.
The deceased victims were pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Somerset County Control emergency center reported Berlin, Somerset and Meyersdale ambulances responded to the scene along with the Berlin and Garrett volunteer fire departments.
