Assumption Parish, LA : Morgan City high senior critical after SUV crash on La. 70 in Pierre Part on Friday, April 8, 2016

Two Tri-City area people were involved in highway crashes that caused serious injuries Friday, including a Morgan City High School senior.
Morgan City High’s Facebook page says Francisco Sierra is in a coma after having surgery.
Sierra underwent surgery at 3 a.m. Saturday.
Pierre Part Fire and Rescue, the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office, the Louisiana State Police and Acadian Ambulance responded to the two-vehicle accident about 6 p.m. Friday on La. 70 in Pierre Part, the Bayou Journal reported.
A woman was driving a Ford Explorer SUV, in which Sierra was a passenger, north on La. 70 when she attempted to make a left turn just short of Rue De Kajun Street.
A man driving an F-350 Super Duty 4x4 was pulling a boat traveling south on La. 70 when the front end of his truck collided with the passenger side of the Explorer.
Both vehicles were forced into a resident’s yard on the right side of the highway before coming to a halt.
The female driver of the Explorer is from Pierre Part. She was transported by Acadian ambulance to Teche Regional in Morgan City with minor injuries.
Sierra was transported to Our Lady of the Lake in Baton Rouge by Air Med .
The male driver and two female passengers in the F350 truck are from St. Amant. They were all transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Gonzales by Acadian ambulance with minor injuries.
Also Friday, the driver of a tractor in Cut Off sustained serious injuries after a pickup truck driven by a Bayou Vista man struck the tractor on La. 3235, according to a Louisiana State Police Troop C news release.
Shortly before 4 p.m. Friday, Louisiana State Police Troop C began investigating a serious injury crash on La. 3235 near La. 3161. It involved a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado and a John Deere Tractor. The driver of the tractor, Nolan Waguespack, 58, of Cut Off, was partially ejected .
The preliminary investigation revealed that Waguespack was traveling north on La. 3235 in the right lane. He was driving a John Deere Farming Tractor model 5525 with his amber caution lights flashing.
The Silverado, driven by Chris Dehart, 63, of Bayou Vista, approached the slow moving tractor from behind. Dehart attempted to steer to the left to avoid the tractor but he struck it on the left rear side.
The tractor overturned and Waguespack was partially ejected through the back window of the fully enclosed cab. He sustained serious injuries and was transported to the hospital, the release said.
Dehart was wearing his seat belt and received minor injuries.
Waguespack’s tractor was equipped with a lap seat belt but he was not restrained .
Alcohol is not suspected as a factor in the crash. Dehart submitted a blood sample and the test results are pending, police said.
