Portland, OR : DUII suspect leads police on I-84 chase on Wednesday night, November 19, 2014
A driver was intoxicated when he crashed into a police cruiser Wednesday night after trying to flee a hit-and-run with a parked car, the Portland Police Bureau said.
Deputies managed to surround the driver as he reversed into a patrol car on Salmon Street exit of I-405.
The police chase started at around 10 p.m. Wednesday when Multnomah County Sheriff’s Deputies were called out to a hit and run on Northeast Holladay Street.
The driver, later identified as 40-year-old George Scruggs III, sped off west on I-84 in his gray Honda Coupe after spotting pursuing deputies, police said.
Law enforcement followed the Ridgefield, Washington suspect until he took the Salmon Street exit of Interstate 405. One of the officers hit and spun Scruggs’ car.
Police said Scruggs put his car into reverse and ran into a patrol car, but other officers arrived and boxed his car in.
Scruggs was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on first-degree criminal mischief driving under the influence of intoxicants, failure to perform the duties of a driver (hit and run), reckless driving, resisting arrest and three counts of reckless endangerment.
