NEWPORT NEWS, VA : At least one person hurt in multi-vehicle crash on I-64 in Newport News on Monday, 15th March 2021

A multi-vehicle crash shut down four lanes of Interstate 64 and injured at least one person on Monday afternoon.

Virginia State Police say the crash took place shortly before 2:45 p.m. on I-64 near exit 256 just west of Victory Boulevard.

Investigators say a 2007 Hyundai Entourage driven by 22-year-old Cooper Plum of Stafford was in the far right lane when it swerved to the far left lane and struck a 2013 Hyundai Elantra from behind. Police say Plum continued going until he stopped further up on the left shoulder.

Plum was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated/DWI. He was taken to Newport News City Jail and received a secured bond.

There's no word on how serious the reported injuries were.
